Case Study:

Rat Race Events approached us in late summer 2011, regarding a new event it was planning. The event, scheduled to take place in November 2011 at Battersea Power Station, was Men’s Health Survival of the Fittest. Rat Race Events has been a specialist in adventure race events for over 10 years, mainly utilising a large number of small race obstacles to create a course. With the spectacular backdrop of the power station, MD of Rat Race events, Jim Mee, was looking for something more substantial in the way of obstacles to challenge his competitors.

Gorilla worked with Rat Race Events to design and develop obstacles that could cope with large number of competitors at any one time, prevent bottle necks and prevent the reduction of competitor flow rate because around 6,000 competitors had to pass each obstacle during the races that day.

Multiple cuplock structures were designed, some providing entry and exit platforms for water based obstacles. Amongst the many creations were a giant cuplock step structure with ramp transition at one end and structures using a combination of impressive army vehicles and cuplock scaffold. Gorilla provided drawings, calculations and documentation to support the safe setup and operation of the obstacles during the event, all of which were approved by the local council building control.
