Project summary:

The 26.2-mile Virgin Money London Marathon is a world famous annual event that is known to millions. In this, the 36th running of the event, it was expected that over 39,000 runners would participate and that would involved a lot of management, organisation and making sure that the right people were at the right place at the right time. One key element to this were the signage structures which were mounted onto 28 towers around the course, the largest of these was the photography gantry at the finish line on the Mall. Working with Star Events, Gorilla was responsible to making sure that all of the signage structures were installed in time and removed in an equally timely manner.

GORILLA role summary:

Design, planning, management and execution of the erection of all the signage structures and photo gantry.

GORILLA role detail:

  • Design and specification of all signage structures and photo gantry
  • 3 Day build up for all signage structures including 4 hours for the photo gantry across the Mall
  • A 7 hour de-rig of all signage structures and photo gantry and their removal
  • All delivered by a team of 18 people

Timescales involved:

3 months from start of the project to the start of the race.

Result / Outcome:

A complete success with all signage structures and the photo gantry being designed, installed and de-rigged within allotted timescales. All signage striuctures highly visible and able to be seen by participants and spectators, the photo gantry providing unparalleled views of the runners coming down the Mall to the finish line.
